Today’s blog is an excerpt from my contribution to Joe Wilner’s forthcoming ebook: “The Great Life Philosophies: Advice for Significant and Successful Living.” Part 2 will be revealed exclusively in the ebook due out in early February. Mr. Wilner is the blogger behind Shake Off the Grind - Advice for thriving not just surviving.
Are you tired of being unknowingly victimized by reports of a deep recession and stories of violent crimes? Good! Then it’s time to recognize how the World-Voice harasses you in ways that adversely affect your attitude and mood.
The World-Voice is found on the headlines of the morning paper; it’s the lead story in the evening news, it’s on the Internet and it’s parroted by friends and neighbors. “Woe is me” has become the chant of the twenty first century.
Most folks have given up W.O.W. (Wonderful Obsession Winning!) for W.O.E. (What On Earth!); we’ve given up our inherent position as ‘sovereign master’ of our earthly experiences for being the helpless victim.
Enough is enough already! Whether you are aware of it or not, you are continually assaulted with misleading opinions that would have you believe that you are incapable of experiencing a safe and prosperous life. Everyone is the target of these lies spoken by the World-Voice; lies that threaten you with loss of every nature (ill health, loss of income, loss of love…).
You are marvelously made, and destined to win at whatever you set your mind to. What will it be for you … riches of every nature or feelings of insecurity and poverty?
The only problem that exists in the world right now is a lack of information about the superlatively creative skills that human beings possess. We have stopped talking to ourselves about our supreme ability to design our earthly destiny as we want it to be. Children do it, until they are hit with 60,000 NO’s between age two and six; then they too, begin trembling; they begin thinking of themselves as incapable of fulfilling on their dreams.
When it comes to your world of experiences – you are the sovereign master! This curing fact will save you from being part of the Woesome pack.
It is crucial that you recognize the truth about you. The harmful World-Voice will not have you know that you are an infinitely unique being; it will deny that your hidden talents and unrealized potential are beyond measure.
Accept no longer, the World-Voice as your own voice! This Voice uses unaware human beings. Your true voice speaks of your unlimitedness; listen to it. The truth speaks to you from deep inside. Dismiss discouraging thoughts – make room for spiritual health and prosperous living.
Are you truly paying attention right now? Are you nodding in agreement? Then you’ve turned the light on … right there before you is the truth! Write down some of the talents that you wish you had:
(1) I wish I was a good writer.
(2) I wish I was smarter.
(3) I wish I was able to start my own business and make a lot of money.
If you can think about them, THEN YOU HAVE THEM! Review your list. Increase your wisdom for detecting how these hidden talents want to express through you.
Now go out into the world and ACT AS THOUGH YOUR HIDDEN TALENTS ARE ALREADY SO – these hidden talents are no longer hiding from you. Persist; you will hear higher voices of sanity and compassion speaking to you. That is the Authentic-Self finally getting to have its say. LISTEN!
Declare your independence from the World-Voice; declare yourself free from the harassing tone of WOE; it’s like moving from a loud, noisy street to a quiet, serene park. IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO THEE!
Thank you and blessings.
“Best Comment of the Week”. This weeks best comment comes from JD Meier from Sources of Insight. The runner up is Lance Ekum from The Jungle of Life. See their comments here.

Hello Rob – what a great addition Joe’s upcoming ebook. In twenty years, I want to have progressed in such a way that I can compile such philosophical, simple, brilliant writing as you did here. Everything was laid out so simply; directly applicable to everyday life – but I still felt a sense of new’ness about it. It kind of feels as if it’s my innate calling being re-introduced to me.
If it’s up to be, then it’s up to me…right!? Blessings!
I agree with your completely, Jk. rob’s writing is so clear in this blog that it almost seems so simple, that I should be able to write it. I know from my own experiences that when someone can explain something this clearly and simply, he really knows it. It’s easier to understand when the teacher really knows the topic. I’ve watched your comments progress, Jk. You are getting simpler. This is not an insult. It’s a compliment!
Both you … Jk … and you … Don … are amazing examples of what we (human beings) can do when we set our minds to it. That comments you offer are a example of speaking from an elevated consciousness. Both of you communicate clearly and powerullyin the above examples. Your compliments of Jk are also applicable to you, Don. I love it when everyone begins hitting homeruns. You can remain as you are, or you can change who you are – Jk and Don are demonstrations of change! Such a gift for everyone to notice. Thank you, thank you.
Thanks for the compliment Don. I appreciate it…I’m certainly a work in progress!
Oh man, this is eye opening for me. I’m way too addicted to TV and the internet. You can find some good stuff but most of time I am just killing time. I’ve been meaning to find a new job or start my own company for like the last 3 years but can’t seem to move forward. I think the “acting as if it so” part is what is missing. I’ve go to stop procrastinating and get out there!
Valuing ‘appearances of rightness’ is a curse, Alan. Valuing ‘free expression’ of your true nature (your unlimited nature), is a blessings. Which shall it be for thee? Blessings
Wow, now that’s an awesome excerpt. It appears Joe has quite the eBook and I’m really digging the WOW vs WOE philosophy (anything that can help my poor brain remember is a good thing
)
Thanks for posting this Rob, it needs to be read.
By going beyond mechanical awareness, you assign this blog more significance than what usual thinking offers – NICE JOB, Marcus. Thank you
Thank you! Just what I needed today. How did you know?
We’re all enslaved by mechanical thinking, until we awaken; you are awakening, Noreen. Blessings
Hi Rob, I am pretty good at expressing my talent but I have an awful time making any money with it. When I am writing and playing music I am free from the morass of negativity in the world. I put everything into two categories these days – that which supports my art and that which hinders it. I soon found I don’t have time for things like facebook and other BS. There is only so much time in the day – I have to make sure I am using it wisely.
Indeed, John, when you get beyond mechanical thinking, you do not waste your day with mechanical reactions to life. NICE. thank you
Rob,
This is such inspiring content, and is an empowering and applicable philosophy to adopt. Thanks for the wonderful addition to the ebook and for providing your support. I truly appreciate you being a part of it.
We, Joe, are part of a Master Mind Alliance that is here to improve the quality of humanity. Thank you for being part. blessings
I don’t watch TV at all anymore. For the last 6 months I just went cold turkey. I feel free and enlightened. I know if I continue to monitor my self-talk and keep a clear vision in mind I will achieve my goals. I really believe my greatest hidden talent is marketing. I’ve got a ton of great ideas but nobody takes me seriously yet – there are just too many negative people around me. I know my dream job is out there and I will have it and make a ton of dough.
When you begin taking yourself seriously, Kara (which you are beginning to do), the world will take a second look at you and say ‘WOW’. Good job!
Rob – thanks for this wonderful, and inspiring, dose of self-empowerment.
Thanks for being an amazing encourager!
Alex
When anything threatens your genuine self-interest, Alex, protect yourself with awakening awareness. Thank you
Rob,
Terrific advise – I love it! Act as if – and it will be so! Definitely. We possess everything we need already to be a complete success – all we need to do is draw it out with the belief that it is there. Thank you for making my day.
Society can be a madhouse, occupied by mechanical thoughts of fear and doubt; don’t buy it, Angela. Blessings
I hear your voice Rob and it resonates with me. Let’s not keep our talents hidden. Open hearts, minds and expectations and then we can all sing.
Nothing is more stupid than self-trickery, John … and mechanical thinking is self-trickery. You see that clearly. blessings

“This curing fact”..that we are sovereign masters of our lives; I like that. Calling facts ‘curing’ is an accurate choice of words. When we look at the facts we end our delusions. Pretty good blog.
pretty good take on the blog, Randy. Yes it is a curing fact to know the truth of our unlimitedness – it cures us of our woesome ills. Thank you
Yup. I think my hidden talent for being a Family Man is my biggest goal right now. I’ve had quite a good and successful career, but it was at the expense of my family. I think I stayed busy my whole life to avoid what was really important. To all you ambitious go-getters: don’t miss what is right under your nose for the next big thing or big payday. I think our hidden talents are closer than we think. It is not always about achieving, but rather it is about being aware what is right here and now.
I like that you notice a hidden fact about you, Georgie. Indeed, being a good family man is a fabulous contribution to yourself and your family, and a contribution to humanity, it gets no better than that.
Oh man, I had such a WOE week, too. People think I’m always positive and upbeat but fall apart some days too. I know exactly why too — I got sucked into a melodrama by some of my negative-nabob friends! I hate it when I allow petty minds to bring me down. My greatest goal is to be Peace and love, peace and love 24/7. It may be alot to ask for but I just have to keep ‘acting as so’ in the face of negativity.
You are beginning to understand this matter thoroughly, Rus; you’re beginning to sound like me (which is simply the voice of truth expressing through both of us, and other seekers of the truth, like us). NICE
YO ROBB–O. This may be your DOPEST BLog yet SON! For me I WISH I WAS A MILLION-MILLION x 1000 – AIRE. If ya know what I mean. I know I can have it because I ALWAYS get my goals. If I have one fault it that I am too ambitious. My MOMS says I have to slow down and be patient. I know she is right but I don’t have time to mess around. Once I hit my goal of making $100K this year I know I’m on my way to the top. Now that I got some secrets from the best!!!! HOLLA
Hey Marc, you’ge gotta slow the steam roller down. If you set goals as high as the highest, jagged mountain while still learning to put your climbing sneakers on – odds are the ego is getting involved. It doesn’t want you to change. It loves lofty goals so it can stuff you with the 60,000 NO’s you heard from age 2 to 6. I will teach you how to ROAR, then you will know what you need to know to play the game of GO. blessings
Hey Rob, I remember some years ago I wrote a piece about what is your biggest sphere of influece? is it your IIS (internal influence systems) Or EIS (external influence systems) and I realised long ago that if I let the EIS be stronger than my IIS then I my mood and attitude will always be fickle. If I become the master of myself then I know those false claims will never overpower my beliefs.
What an awesome piece!
Nice article you mention, Amit. We cause our own problems by not seeing the difference between IIS and EIS, and not choosing IIS. Learning to ROAR shows you the difference, and shows you how to effectively climb the Two Ladders of Success (which is all about IIS). thank you
Oh wow-za. I’m looking forward to this ebook. Sounds like a winner. I’ve always been a big believer in shutting off the TV and reading a book or spending family time. I once heard that the average American spends 35 hours a week watching TV!! That’s insanity! How can anyone figure out who they are in life if they are constantly bombarded with voices telling them who they are?! It’s abhorrent. The best way to figure out our hidden talents is to learn to be our own best friend – an island unto ourselves. Meditation is a good place to start – I know it has helped me lately.
I love your wise words, Carol Anne. When you no longer believe in your own psychic shipwreck, you can get on with the business of living. Meditation is a great start. thank you
I wish I had didn’t wait so long in life to even begin to ask, “who am I, and why I am here.” I feel a little duped that I let the World-Voice dictate most of my life. But it’s never too late for this Old Dog, I tell you what. The best is yet to come for me. Most of my friends are checked out and just want to retire – thats the world voice talking – not me! I’m just hitting my stride.
You have a winning attitude, Roger. The old ‘woe is me’ frame of mind is absent; what a gift you give yourself (and the world). Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks; it happens all of the time! thank you
> The World-Voice is found on the headlines of the morning paper
I like that framing. It’s empowering.
We don’t have to be swept up by the world voice, and we can bellow our own. Or ROAR
When we learn the four steps to ROAR-ing, J.D, we are no longer behind the wheel snoring. A person’s life is determined by the ‘world-voice opinions’ that he (she) is willing to challenge. blessings
I sure wish I was smarter! I’m beginning to come around to the idea that I do have some unique positive talents to offer the offer the world. I’m using my intensity and anger to be funny and exciting. I used to think I had to be cynical all the time. Now I try to use my dark humor in more uplifting way – but there are still jerks out there that need a good dose of Angry!
Atta boy, Ramone … indeed, you are coming around …. coming around to the truth: you are marvelously made and destined to win at whatever you set your mind to. ROAR to yourself about that! blessings
Indeed, Rob we have everything we need in us already. Seeking happiness elsewhere is young man’s game. In my latter years my talent is being a mentor and imparting wisdom by being a living example of peace. I’m learning to relax and see I can sail the ocean of happiness whenever I choose. I can’t wait for peace and calm to come to me – it is already within and I can set sail anytime.
WOW, Salty, Wonderful Obsession Winning, that seems to be what your new aspiration is about. NICE. thank you
Hey Rob, I’ve always wished I could do more creative things. I was always good at music and writing but I totally lost it when I had to make a living. I became so fixated on beating the competition and getting a big slice of the pie I totally lost sight on fun, fulfilling stuff. All did was work hard and drink hard. I’m ready for something else. I’ve got all the toys now and it’s boring. Maybe it is time for me to write the “Great American Novel”….
Hi Rob, I’ve stopped striving for material things. I am wonderfully obsessed with peace, love and harmony. Seeing the emptiness in acquiring “Things” has been enlightening. I used to be such a materialist. I want to stick with my wonderful obsession for all things spiritual.
Love it, Rob! We need to find our way back from WOW to WOE. So much of what we can imagine and envision is possible, but we’ve allowed ourselves to be conditioned into playing devil’s advocate to our own dreams. Keep up the excellent work here at Mind Adventure!
