If you are following our Thurs eve webinars, you are aware of the uncommon dialogue in which we are engaged. It is uncommon to admit the truth in a world that feeds you lies. We are starting a movement toward the empowering truth.
Here is a truth that it is vital to admit (if you intend to create your future as you want it to be): positive thinking alone is not powerful. Why doesn’t positive thinking (alone) work? Let’s proceed.
Positive thinking does not empower you; it can point you in the right direction once you are empowered, but it cannot imbue you with the power you need to design your personal destiny.
There is a need to catch a glimpse at how polarity works, if you are to have any real power in your life. Polarity, like gravity, is not going away (at least not while you are living in this realm of relativity). We did not learn how to travel to the moon without dealing with gravity. Denying that gravity exists would have been insanity.
So, lets look at polarity – where opposites exist. It’s been said that planet earth is that place between heaven and hell where all opposites exist, and how much of heaven you experience (and how much of hell) is entirely up to you!
Denying that polarity exists (with its kazillion opposites), is a sure way to a hellish existence of disappointment and frustration. So, where the hell is heaven? Heaven is right around the corner!
Positive thinking, alone, will not get you to that heavenly state of prosperity (where the fulfillment of your dreams exist). You live in a world of relativity; don’t deny it. You cannot experience UP without an occasional relationship with DOWN. How are you to enjoy a happy smile if you’ve not had a miserable relationship with a frown? Thinking that you can ‘just think positively’ and all good things shall come to thee… that is insanity!
Memorizing positive quotes, and repeating them 1,000 times daily, amounts to very little progress until you allow the negative ‘YA BUTS’ to wiggle their way in. I didn’t say ‘accept the YA BUTS as godsend … but do allow them to pass through … don’t deny their existence; don’t suppress them; don’t push against them with an even louder affirmation of YES. What you resist shall persist. That which you push at – pushes back!
REAL THINKING IS POWERFUL, all else is weak in comparison. Learn to be real about your perception of life. You fail your way to success. Human beings are divinely discontent beings. You are part of polarity … don’t resist this fact and you have power over polarity.
Student: Why do most human being fail to hear the facts about how the mind works, how polarity works, how being a powerful creator works?
Teacher: Most humans fail to hear the facts because their egos have no interest in hearing anything outside of what its collection of beliefs allows.
If your life isn’t unfolding as wonderfully as you once hoped it would, it is time to catch a glimpse of another way of thinking. Imagine the absence of ego-competition when thinking of your aspirations and aims. Imagine allowing all of the ‘YA BUTS’ that come along … to interrupt your positive affirmations. Don’t argue with those ‘YA BUTS’
… don’t try to drown them out with a louder positive affirmation … just allow them to enter your field of consciousness and pass through. This gives you a glimpse of another way of dealing with your mind.
Failures, mistakes and disappointments reside in that part of each of us that insists we can overcome our negative thoughts by ignoring them or pretending we are separate from them. Negative thoughts are part of the marvelous whole. YOU ARE PART OF THE MARVELOUS WHOLE. You are within the harmonious flow of the positive part of the marvelous wholeness when you allow the negative part to be. When you allow the negative part to be – it allows you to be: NOW YOU ARE FREE TO CREATE YOUR LIFE AS YOU WANT IT TO BE! This is not a starry philosophy. This is reality.
Perhaps you will not grasp all that is being offered in this one chunk, but if you stay with this conversation long enough – you will be giving yourself a standing ovation for understanding the truth. THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE OF THE GRIP OF NEGATIVITY.
Are you reflecting on this blog?
Are you connecting it with your life.
Are you connecting it with what you have learned (that it is time to unlearn).
Watch what happens to your feelings of negativity; they will begin to fade quickly.
Regarding last nights webinar: Thank you … (1) Jk for sharing your feelings of insecurity and confidence (2) Jenny Ann for wondering what your raison d’etre (purpose in life) may be (3) Matthew for asking a great question about procrastination (4) Parker Lee for admitting your sensitivity, and (5) Sylvia for sharing the breakthrough that you are experiencing as a result of a prior webinar.
The first principle of positive self-work is ‘an honest look at polarity and allowing it to be’.
Comments please. What can you add to this blog (insights or life-lessons that you’ve enjoyed) that further enhance this conversation.

Hi Rob,
As you note allowing everything to come your way – positive, negative, whatever – is the objective. The moment you fight, whatever you battle fights back. When you allow you are free to be.
I like to practice the FER method myself: Face, Embrace and Release. As I progress I appear to be running into more resistance. Whereas I used to only note the resistance/event itself now I’ve become more adept at noting the feelings I experience when encountering resistance. When I am with the feelings, they go away. When I fight, they stick around
You can’t get over something that’s still in you.
Thanks for sharing!
Ryan
I like your FER method, Ryan. The trick is to actually use it and not just think about it (and, as we both know- that is where the self-discipline comes in). Thank you for your honesty. blessings, rob

Another great webinar last night, Rob. Thanks to all who went on air to discuss, I learned so much – especially from Jenny Ann. She mirrored A LOT of my own questions too! How brave!
.
Since I’ve started allowing my negative self talk to chatter away it has started to lose its control. I stopped feeling guilty and am able to take it lightly and laugh a bit. Laughter is the best medicine. I hate being sooo serious about everything!
.
When we let our negative self-talk be, Carol Anne, indeed it let’s us be. It does not continue to howl and affect us. It’s an interesting mental phenomenon. blessings
So Rob your saying if we let our negative thoughts run free, it will dissipate in a matter of time?
If we allow our negative thoughts to be, Jonathan, they will simply pass through; which gives us the ability to choose what we think next (optimistic thoughts). How do we let them be? Do not identify with them. Give them no significance; they are only part of the polarity that exists in this realm of existence.
It’s hard forme to swallow that I must be willing to allow my negative thoughts to have their way, and then they will go away. It makes so much sense, but so many books insist that positive thinking is all there is to it; yet I know in my gut – positive thinking is not enough.
Indeed, Don, the world voice (with it many erroneous beliefs) can speak through books. Just because someone writes a book, it doesn’t make the information in the book true. This is where YOU come in – you need to notice what works and what doesn’t work for you. blessings
This is great Rob. Positive thinkers always drove me crazy. The most successful people I meet are usually cantankerous nut jobs! Ha ha. I say they are nut jobs because they are so focused that most people label would them “weird” or what have you. And they are cantankerous and cynical because they take a good hard look at reality — however they are positive people because they feel deserving of success. I
YES, Salty, many successful achievers can appear to be ‘too stark’ with their ‘noticements’, but the truth is – they are being REAL (rather than smearing everything over with sweet jam). Being REAL offers answers … hoping that positive thinking will do the job; that’s false hope. blessings
I am just coming over to your website. You have a ‘seth’ like quality and depth to your writing. Have you read the Seth material? That material helped me to see that reality is far different than what we are taught it is, and that is the reason so many people make living on planet earth a hellish experience. I like what you are offering your followers. I have become far more successful with dealing with my life because of seeing things from the perspective that Seth offered.
Seth, indeed, offers the truth, Anita. It is difficult for most folks to understand Seth’s dialogue because it so contrasts the beliefs that they were brought up to believe. Thank you.
I listened in the last night. Your webinar series is pretty interesting. A friend referred me. I prefer to listen more than participate because I don’t know you people and it feels strange to reveal myself to strangers. I like the idea of addressing the negatives in your life rather than saying positive things and pretending the negatives are not there. It makes sense. This blog explains it further so I am beginning to understand your reasoning behind it.
I am glad you joined in the other night, Norman. You need not actively participate if you prefer to remain quiet. The basis of the webinar is freedom. blessings
Hi Rob. This is timely. I have plenty of “YA BUTS” lately. Its like I was soaring high for a while and everything was clicking along and the next thing I know I’m grumpy and agitated with everyone. I hate it when I get that way now…..I fell like a failure or something. So I think what I have to do is just allow the old Roger to get pissed off every once in a while and then get back to the business of being positive.
Well said, Roger. I could not have said it better. Indeed, allow the ‘old consciousness’ to speak its point of view – and then just let it pass through, SO YOU CAN SEE THINGS ANEW! Nice! thankyou
It’s awesome to hear you say that we cannot rid ourselves of negative thoughts, but we can let them just pass through. I always believed this was true, but so many of my friends would say,”just think positively”. Well, saying it and doing it are two very different things.
YES, Jan, it is easy to say, “just think positively.” Now, go ahead and do it! Indeed, easier said than done. Allow those negative thoughts that pop in to flow through. Don’t identify with them, but don’t reist the fact that they show up. Nice! thank you
Great one Rob. Negative states can sometimes be unavoidable so it is best to just let them flow through us. We might even learn something!
I am glad to hear Sylvia is having a breakthrough. She was very brave in that webinar the other week. JK is doing a fantastic job as always too.
I hope to attend next Thursdays!
See you around,
Steven
Indeed, Steven, your energy adds to the mind-mingling events that we experience with the webinar series. Your input, Steven, adds practical value to one’s day. Teacher: “What’s the sublimest thought one can have?” Student: “A magnificent sunset.” Teacher: “That is a nice thought, but what is even more sublime, is a thought that adds practical value to one’s day.” Thank you.
Boy do I know it I tried positive thinking for years and just ended up deeper into depression by the end. When I can see reality I have much greater success. Like when I was in a bad relationship I just kept hoping that things would turn around. I’m much more aware of relationships I enter and try not to get swept away in false hopes.
Sour relationships are a great example of folks refusing to see what’s NOT working, and pretending that all is well. Things just get worse. That’s a great example, Kara. Thankyou.
I’m having trouble keeping up with you Rob. Every time I come to your blog I feel like I landed in the Graduate School classes after getting out of high school! Haha. I think I get what you mean though… for me books like the Secret did more harm than good. After a couple months of positive thinking I felt a little burned AND I pissed off all my friends because I became a know it ALL LOL good god I feel embarrassed now
Unfortunately, Rus, we all get caught in being ‘know it alls’ at times. When we are willing to see the polarity in our lives, it offers humility. Now we have the opportunity to open our minds to new lessons. Thanks for your comment about your own experience with this. blessings
Well, John Lennon believed in love (and you know how I love him!) I don’t remember any songs about “alll you need to do is think positively…” He was definitely an edgy guy and a realist but he believed in the higher truths out there. He didnt ignore his negative thoughts and was able to see the other side of the stick and make great music. That’s an artist, man!
YES, John, John Lennon was a realist (not a ‘positive thinker’). Lennon loved thinking positively, but he knew there was polarity to deal with, and he dealt with it. He loved being REAL more than being candy-cotton positive. Great example. Thank you
Rob, I used to have a big but. But this and but that always saying positive phrases and personal big ups then self deflating my big ballon ideas by ‘butting’ in with reasons (read excuses) why now isn’t the time, I’m not the man, it’s not quite right etc etc. We must be aware of our self sabotaging and our lack of true surrender to the inspiring outcomes that can come our way when we drop the dross by shining a light on it. Your post reminded me to have a mantra medical to see if I’m slipping back into bad habits. Cheers mon ami!
Big ‘buts’ will always bump into our aspirations, John. The trick is to let them pass through without identifying with them. Then we have the ability to choose the aspiration over the ‘but’ that is trying to butt up against us.
Nice noticement, John. Thank you
I used to think that positive thinking would bring me anything I wanted. In fact, I was committed to this notion for years and even developed a sense of loyalty to the concept…so loyal that I continued to utilize the concept even though it yielded very little benefit…so loyal that I never asked why? “Why am I thinking all of this positivity, falsely avoiding and neglecting the negative thoughts – but get little to no gain in return.”
I read this blog a few minutes after it was published last Friday and figured after reading it that I’d take the weekend to think about it to something specific, apply it and share my experience…So, here it is, Rob:
I’ve been struggling with a goal that I lost focus on a few years back. I wanted to revitalize the goal, but I struggled with accepting it because I just couldn’t fathom that I could actually obtain it. While my thinking was totally positive, I still didn’t have that feeling of total acceptance, leading me not want to take on the commitment. So, after reading this blog last Friday, I began to allow all thoughts to come to mind, discounting none of them.
What I learned, from myself (with knowledge learned from you, Rob) is that I’m going to be the same me, if not better regardless if I achieve this goal or not. If I achieve or not achieve this goal, the support I receive from friends and family will not change. I got to the point where one of the major considerations in me not moving forward [which was embarrassment of failure] was trumped by seeing myself as a leader for others for simply following my heart/reaching out for my goals – no matter what I thought the recourse would/could be. Humility comes with a great sense of power.
To jump forward – yesterday morning, 15 minutes into my workout…I made the decision – “I’m going for it again”. I went from just trying to think positively about it, to allowing the negative thoughts to introduce me into the REAL feelings that lurked within me. After doing this, I actually felt positively about it. I don’t just think positively; I feel it now. I’m confident and have faith that I will achieve.
Thanks for the knowledge Rob!
You are a blessing to me, Jk. God sends nothing but angels (and he sent you). Okay … enough cotton-candy positivity. What I love about your attitude, Jk, is that you are willing to take that ‘winning attitude’ all the way … which means down into deep valleys as well as high over lofty mountains. That is winning! The journey, Jk … oopses and all … is a marvelous journey. We must stop insisting that we are always winners. We are human beings. We are superlative creators. Some of our creations will fall short; they will place us on the losing side of life; there’s that polarity again! Love the journey, Jk. You are a marvelous demonstration to so many folks – a demonstration of what it means to ‘never give up … never, never, never, never, never!) Directly on the other side of ‘never giving up’ is the unlimited you! blessings.
Thank you for helping me get rid of my negative feelings. Now that I know that we all have negative thoughts, even the best of us, I can stop beating myself up so much when I get upset about thinking negative thoughts. I really believed that successful people always think positive thoughts no matter what.
There are a lot of myths out there, Jen. No one thinks just positive thoughts. Just knowing this makes it easier on all of us. blessings
I think you have to have confidence first and foremost. If you are a confident person things just start to happen. I don’t carry any negativity with me and people always ask how is it that I always get what I’m after?? I just say YOU HAVE TO KEEP WHEELING AND DEALING BABY! NEVER STOP!!!
If you carry no negativity with you, then you are one of the extreme few; and I would love to sit at your feet and learn. Those with no relationship to the negative are masters (like Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed). It seems we all have some negativity; it is part of the human gig. Do you always get what you are after, or do you often get what you are after? (polarity insists that we do not always win).
Rob,
Many times we have wishful thinking going that “if we believe in strong enough, it will happen”. But it is only wishful thinking but our hopes falls short on a few occasion, taking our self worth down with it.
With lot of experience, we can true wisdom to see what is real truth. Thank you for this thought provoking series.
Preeti
YES, Zengirl, the idea of ‘just believing in it hard enough will make it happen’ is a myth. There is more to it than that. We must deal with the polarity between where we are and where we want to be (mentally, emotionally and physically). Thank you
Oh I got plenty of negative thoughts! Thats why I go by Angry Ramone – I don’t deny I’m an angry guy most of the time but it is tongue in cheek. I allow myself to be angry and calm down. It is the latin way. You gringos can learn a thing or two by getting ANGRY every once in a while. Stop stuffing it in!
Nice comment, Ramone. There is honesty in what you say. blessings
Hi Rob,
Very nice post my friend! Less than 2 years ago, I used to fight with the negative thoughts that come in my mind. The key is as you say let them pass by and to not fight against them. Positive thinking is useful only if we can feel what we say, otherwise, it doesn’t work. Thanks for sharing
YES, Dia, when we identify with negative thoughts or when we resist them by insisting they leave our consciousnessness – we empower them. When you allow them to pop in and pass through, you find postive thoughts available to you – now take the time to put your heart-mind in agreement with these positive thoughts; take the time to visualize and feeeeeeel them (there’s your creative power!). blessings
Positive thinking is bad business! People have to be real. I get fed up with New Agers who sit around trying to look blissed out. We all know they are phonies. I love the way you tell it like it is my, friend. People need to hear the truth – especially if it hurts!
You’re a little tough on the ‘positive thinkers’ Alan007, but I get your point. Yes, some folks can speak in a positive way that sounds phony. They are trying their best to be positive, but it’s not working. They need to allow a little polarity to flow into their speech. blessings
Once I heard about the “positive thinking” and “law of attraction stuff I went way overboard. I actually quit my day job because I thought I was going to be a famous poet if I thought hard enough. That is insanity!! I can laugh now. I don’t think I’m alone in this. Now I have a good, steady income stream and I write my poetry with great gusto in any free minute I have.
Thank you for bringing your life to the blog, Elizabeth. We all get to learn a little something about ourselves with others share their life experiences. blessings.
I’m a fan of positive action. Thinking is a good start, but I like how Covey says we create things twice — first in our minds, then in the world.
