Stop Pushing Money Away

July 25th, 2010 by rob white

072410_money_1Most folks, when it comes to dealing with money – begin with the wrong kind of clarity.

In a world where the idea of a ‘double dip recession’ is part of the world-voice, most folks are very clear that money is scarce. They end up confused about their relationship with money. I know of what I speak – I was caught in that confusion a couple of decades ago.

If you are going to conduct your affairs using spiritual common sense, then you must understand how the Law of Multiple Returns works. First, you cannot receive value unless you give value, and I notice the attitude of entitlement creeping into so many minds these days. Life just doesn’t work that way. Sowing and Reaping is an intricate part of this ever expanding cosmos in which we live. It is important to notice that the word ‘SOWING’ primes the pump. It’s not reaping and sowing … it is sowing and reaping.

072410_money_2Yes, there is plenty of money around even in a deep recession. No one has piled bills of money up in their back yard (like fall leaves) and burned it. Student: So what does it take to attract money? Teacher: It takes relating to money like you relate to air. It is as immediately available as the air you breathe. You are willing to exhale the air from your lungs so that you can allow fresh new air to rush in – aren’t you? You don’t hold your breath as long as you can, out of fear that your next breath will be void of oxygen.

Are you willing to trust that there is a Law of Multiple Returns that is omnipresent and always in action? How else can a farmer plant one tomato seed and receive a vine of twelve ripe tomatoes? He makes his claim on the earth (nature) expecting a multiple return. You must be willing to put your money out there with confidence that it will come back to you tenfold (fivefold – if tenfold intimidates you). If you put money out there fearing no return – guess what? You win. No return!

How do you work the Law of Multiple Returns? You must make your claim. Speak to yourself with a clear voice: “This money that I am investing (spending) will return to me in multiples.” Mean it. Feeeel it. Practice makes perfect. It really is all in the attitude.

072410_money_3Make friends with money so it doesn’t avoid you. Have a great feeling about money. Love money for all the good it can do for you, your loved ones, and the planet. I would not own homes on the East and West Coasts, and be able to share them with my family and friends, if I had not figured out this ‘money relationship matter’ for myself. Some day perhaps I can have you over for a visit?

I could go on but I think this is enough for now. Let’s see what you think about this conversation. Share your ideas about money. Do you think money is the root of all evil? Do you accept money as a glorious blessing that offers you opportunities to use it productively so that you may bring happiness to yourself and the world? What tips do you have on how to attract money?

Consider purchasing my book 180; it offers many tips on how to create a wonderful relationship with everything in your life (which includes money). Sow $20 for the book and reap $$$ (you decide the amount). If this suggestion offends you – pause and ask yourself, “Why am I getting so upset over rob’s suggestion that I sow $20 to purchase his book? Care to comment?

Money can be used as a spiritual measure to see how you are interacting with the four interactive forces of the universe (another topic to be discussed in a future blog).

Blessings, rob

  1. Why is it that we are increasingly feeling entitled? Friends and I have been discussing this throughout the past year – entitled to position, to job, to services, to respect – you name it. We have seen people expecting “something” without the willingness to give, invest, or open themselves first. It is wild.
    Great post though – Money flows – I notice I have what I need…

    • rob says:

I love your inquiry into the matter of ‘entitlement’. entitlement pertains to ‘rights granted by law’. The Law of Life grants you the right to sow that you may reap a multiple of what you have sown. Somehow, indeed, the idea of ‘first giving’ in order to receive has been lost for so many. When we stop adhering to life’s laws, we suffer in the end. Life does not have a heart when it comes to breaking her (his) universal laws. Try defying the Law of Gravity by jumping off a cliff – oh oh!

  2. Hi Rob.

I sure do push money away. I have done it many times without knowing it. When you do well, money almost tosses itself at you and you have to grab it. This can be in the form of an opportunity that is easily within your reach, or a deal that is easily made.

Good call about saying that sowing comes first and then reaping follows. I don’t think I’ve ever had it work the other way. The hard part has to be completed and then the parade can begin.

Hey Armen, I like the energy and the honesty that you put into this comment. Folks are going to learn from you.

  3. Thanks for this Rob!
This is something I have been working on in my own life, and while I see improvement, I still find myself lacking in faith.
I have ordered your book. I can’t wait!

    • rob says:

Thank you, Jenny, for your honesty (and thank you for ordering my book). Yes, indeed it takes ‘faith’ to believe in something that has not yet been one’s experience. Without faith – nothing new is possible. And on the other end of that spectrum, when you have faith – nothing is impossible (not even attracting gobs of money to use for beneficial reason). Blessings.

  4. Rob,

This is an interesting point. In my life when I was making too much once and I was unhappy and did not save much. Now I am happier at home and do lot of volunteer work and free help and feel relatively happy. Sometimes I wish be financially free to provide enough for kids future.

Any advise? suggestions? I am all ears. I am planning on reading your book too.

    • rob says:

Thank you Preeti, for your sincere inquiry. Money is a strange conversation for most. You mention that you were making too much at one time. What was the belief (behind the stress) that made you unhappy? Money itself cannot make us happy or unhappy. what we think about money can make us happy … what we think about money can make us unahppy. There is a conversation that human beings are born into about feeling unworthy. It is found in religions and it even spills from the tongues of family and friends: “Oh, you shouldn’t have done that … I don’t deserve it.” This can be a subconsciouss conversation, of which the surface mind is unaware. Money is a big conversation that can be very revealing about one’s attitude toward self and life. blessings.

This is a massive post Rob. A post for our times and a real obstacle breaker. Bravo! I had never heard of the Law of Multiple Returns but it makes so much sense how you present it. I’m going to share this as it deserves to go far.

As for my relationship with money I think I’m going to start dating again and building up rapport. It’s time we got serious!!

    • rob says:

You are funny, John. I love the metaphor – you are going to start dating money again, and give it a second chance to have a successful relationship with you – Ha Ha. What you teach – you learn. Teach others about the ‘Law of Multiple Returns’ so that you may drive it deeper into your own consciousness. Great idea!

  7. Jean Sarauer says:

I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with money because of the various stories I told myself about it. Now, I see it as the natural outcome of my sowing activities of writing and teaching.

  8. rob says:

Indeed, Jean, money is part of ‘The Infinite’s Grand Plan’ … it is part of the ‘Universal Force of Circulation’ which gives power to the ‘Law of Multiplication’. It is all divinely connected to your writing and teaching.

  9. Rob,
You have hit the nail on the head – once again! So true, we have to stop the scarcity thinking if we’re ever going to be able to create abundance.
We need to also believe we’re worthy of having money. These are such great issues for discussion Rob.
Thank you, once again, for bringing up the issues I have pushed aside.

    • rob says:

I have noticed, Angela, that many who take the spiritual path to higher reasoning try avoid money as if it is dirty. There are invisible things like love, harmony in human relationships, and peace of mind that are certainly to be valued above money – but money is part of the game of circulation that we play on this physical plane. It can be fun to play if we use money rightly. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Rob: I love your use of imagery (now if only money did truly grow on trees).

Now, when it comes to money, well, I feel good when I have it but I don’t stress out when it’s running low. My friends on the other hand stress out so much about it. I get it. It’s stressful especially when you have responsibilities that need to be bet. But it changes their general outlook and I don’t see that as being very constructive you know. I don’t know why I think about it differently. For me, I just have a general sense of feeling that “everything is going to be ok” and I take small steps to make that happen every day. People tell me I’m too care free and that it isn’t good. To which I argue, “yeah, well worrying isn’t going to get me anywhere now is it…”

Anyway, just me rambling here… Off I go now :-)

    • rob says:

Actually, Ricardo, money DOES grow on trees. Paper is made from trees. Money is made from paper, so money grows as trees grow! Ha Ha. You mention that perhaps you were rambling. I believe you were investigating your own paradigm around money and stress vs. what others tell you. That is a great way to get to know yourself. There is more investigation around money to come and the human personality to come in future blogs.

  11. Thanks for this wise post, Rob. I know from experience that clenching too tightly isn’t the way to go. Making money is only one aspect of it. What has helped me is investing and giving some of it away. It’s supposed to flow and holding on too hard clogs the pipe. Also, it helps not to put too heavy an emphasis on it. Money is great once we learn how to relate to it; but there are many things out there that are more important.

  12. rob says:

Yes, Belinda … as I mentioned on an above comment to Angela, there are invisible things like love, harmony in relationships and peace of mind that are far more valuable to our experiences as human beings than is money. We cannot worship god (circulation) and mammon (greed) to. What this ancient quote means is that if you bury your gold in the back yard, it does you (nor anyone else) no good, and eventually someone is going to come along and dig it up and take it from you. Use it and multiply it. I love how you put your heart into your comments.

  13. Jenn says:

Rob, it feels great to stumble onto your site today,.. divine timing! ;)
I do struggle with subconsciously pushing money away. It is hard for me to think of receiving financially as not being selfish and greedy or guilty at least with that being my intention. At the same time, I want to help people and prosper in their relationships, so I sort of have this love-hate relationship with money and my role as a newbie author. I think just reading what you shared helped to shift some of my thought process and hopefully it will help me take some more healthy strides towards embracing abundance in my life. This is good to know also as new doors are opening lately.. :) thanks again, Jenn

    • rob says:

It is difficult for many folks to receive financially, Jenn. T’is a foolish game we play with ourselves when we subconsciously reject money. I used to do this in the name of spirituality. Where does it say that spirituality and scarcity are kinfolk? I like your rigorous self-observation. It will help you to be clear in your new career as a book author. Folks like clarity when reading a new book.

  14. SteveM says:

money is a big problem for me. I like to think because I am a spiritual kindof guy that I should not be concerned with money, but your blog is making me give this a second thought. Yes, I connect money with greed and think it causes evil. Perhaps I should look at money from a new perspective.

    • rob says:

Yes, Steve, it is wise to look at money from a new perspective when it has you feeling negative. Accept money as a part of ‘all of it’. It is a fundamental rule that we accept everything that exists (including money) if we are to live peacefully and dynamically with ‘all of it’. Money is part of ‘all of it’ … isn’t it?

  15. Rob, thanks for providing such a clear post and wonderful metaphor. I do believe that if we have the proper heart motives, that we can have a good relationship with money. When fear and greed underlie our desire for money, I think that we’ll maybe attain the money, but then lose it, or be unhappy. When generosity and value precede our desire for money, with the thought of blessing those around us, that is the proper use of the Law of Attraction.

    • rob says:

I like what you said, Steve: ‘when generosity and value preced the desire for money – money is good – it is the proper use of the Law of Attraction. Great contribution!

  16. Nancy says:

I needed this conversation about money. I never thought about having a relationship with money. I guess I do, and it isn’t a good one.

    • rob says:

Bad new is good new, Nancy. When you know your relationship with money isn’t good – you can do something about it. When you don’t have a clue, it keeps happening to you.

  17. Joe Wilner says:

    Rob,

This makes me think of the millionaire mind set. I nowhere near a millionaire though understand that in order to have millions of dollars it is essential to be able to perceive it and relate to the reality of it. I have been engaged in the book Think and Grow Rich as well as others. I will continue to read these until I really emotionally grasp the ideas on a level that becomes ingrained in my everyday thinking. Thanks!

    • rob says:

Establishing a prosperity consciousnes is important, Joe. When we look at money from an impoverished point of view (like there is not enough out there), we create that reality. Money, like the beautiful invisible riches that we all love (peace of mind, harmony in human relationships) requires our attention if we are to create it in our experiences.

  18. Hi Rob,
Great article and as a farm girl who grew up picking tons of tomatos with our migrant workers your analogy is such a visual for me.

When I was 17 and pregnant and married my hubs he had 2 dollars in his pocket…that’s it all we had to our name. He joined the National Guards (during Vietnam War) and was off three days later.

We had love, determination and our dreams plus hared work…and three more girls after the firs, here we are almost 39 years later and we’ve never spent a day broke.

After reading your book I think it’s the best $20 investment I can thing of today. Why would anyone want to wait!

    • rob says:

You are a blessing. Tess, to me and to the whole world around you. Your inspiring attitude, your clarity of communication, your uplifting mood … we need a whole lot more floks like you on this planet right now. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  19. Keith Davis says:

    Hi Rob
I have been accused of many things… but never pushing money away. LOL
The recession has certainly made us think about our relationship with money.
I work in the construction industry, which has virtually ground to a halt in the UK.

I like the old saying that “if money is the root of all evil then greed is the fertiliser”.

Need to read through this post a few times, especially the bit about the Law of Multiple Returns.

Informative and thought provoking post Rob – as always.

    • rob says:

Hey Keith, I like your rigorous honesty. You say it as it is for you. Refreshing. The Law of Multiple returns is always in action … did you ever watch a cherry tree blossom in spring -WOW. If this law did not exist, this ever-expanding universe would not be ever expanding. Blessings.

  20. MarvinJ says:

I never heard of the Law of Multiple returns and it makes absolute common sense. Thanks for the tip.

  21. Rus says:

I bought your book months ago. I finished the 180 program and it did turn my attitude around one hundred and eighty degrees on many topics. I think it is a great tool for successful living. I wish you would have brought up the subject of ‘oneness’ in the book. It interests me. Is it in a future book?

  22. I saw this definitely excellent post these days!…

  23. Terrific, this is precisely what I was scanning for! This article just spared me alot of work

I’ll make certain to put this in good use!
