Your ‘Recovery Act Program’

May 2nd, 2010 by rob white

recovery_1On April 30th, Vice President Biden spoke of the ‘Recovery Act’; what it takes for the country to recover from it’s current lows. We can all work miracles in our own individual lives when we take the time to put together a ‘Recovery Action Program’ that puts our mind back on track.

When I find myself caught in challenging circumstances, it is important that I take immediate command of my mind. The mind can be wavering and wobbly when things are not working out as hoped, and if I may paraphrase ancient text: “he that wavers is tossed to and fro by the winds of life.”

recovery_2The first thing to do when life is challenging you is to pause to concentrate all of your creative energy on how you want your life to be; put together a ‘Recovery Act Program’ that clearly tells the mind the outcome you intend to achieve. “I intend to eat right and get over the flu quickly.” “I intend to begin a savings program and get out of this debt.” Mean it when you say it. This requires exercising your Power of Will, which is infinite!

recovery_3If it is to be, it is up to thee; what will you decide about yourself and your future that will support your aspirations and aims? A ‘Recovery Act Program’ requires not only focusing your attention on how you want your life to unfold; it also requires changing your behavior patterns so they support your new visions. Spend time pondering what you DO want and what you will do to make it happen… and give little time to what you do NOT want. The mind is an awesomely powerful creative tool when used rightly. What is the ‘Recovery Act Program’ that will put your mind back on track?

My ‘recovery act’ is to start eating nutritiously and join the local health club. If I am to recover my youthful shape, I need to take recovery action now.

  2. ArtistNick says:

I know I need a recovery act program when I start to get easily agitated. I just let my agitation run wild until it exhausts itself. By embracing it, it actually becomes humorous because I realize I’m just being a 6 year old kid who is trying to get his way. I can quickly come back around and get back to business.

‘Recovery Act’ balony … I need a full blown do-over. I have been getting really agitated with my life, and it is time for some real change!

  5. Rob,
There is so much wisdom in this post.

One of the most important questions we can ever ask ourselves is: what do I really want? This post takes the answer and encourages people to use the mind in a positive way to stay focused. For dreams to be realized, we have to want what we really want more than we want our self-defeating habits. Then there is no conflict – just moving forward with clear intention.

Hi Gail, ‘we have to want what we really want, more than wanting our self-defeating habits’. Great insight. It is the rightness act that stops us from focusing on the winning game. I hope you do not mind my adding the clause about ‘wanting to be right’. I find with folks I know that it is not that we want our self-defeating habits as much as we want to be right about them. Hmmm. This need to be right is what kills our glorious dreams. Thankyou, Gail ……… rob

    Hi Rob
Difficult bit is “changing your behavior patterns” as you put it.
There is an old saying “If all you have in life is a hammer… everything in life looks like a nail.”
Which means that we sometimes need a new set of tools or skills to get a job done OR sort out our recovery plan.

    • rob says:

When all we have is a hammer, Keith, indeed, all we see is nails. What thou be-est (a carpenter with a hammer) determines what thou see-est (world full of nails). Yes, a new tool will help us to see things differently. Nice tip.
      Thank you, rob

  7. Carol Anne says:

My new Recovery Act Program is to take a bike ride when I am feeling stressed out. It works wonders on my cluttered mind.

  8. rob says:

A bike ride that takes you from your cluttered mind – great tip, Carol Anne

  9. Greg Blencoe says:

    Hi Rob,

You make such a fantastic point to focus on what we do want and not on what we don’t want. This can definitely be a challenge when we are down and feeling negative. During these times, it can be easy to stay in that negative downward spiral. But when we hold firm and focus on what we want, we are giving ourselves the best chance to achieve it.

    • rob says:

Nice comment, Greg. You are wonderfully transparent. When you are caught in downwardly spiraling thoughts, Greg, be an alert listener and wait for the gap … thoughts leave gaps … in the gap, slowly, deliberatly and softly speak a thought that turns the mind in the upward direction.

  10. Rus says:

I keep focusing on my money problems, I really need a Recovery Act Program. Just when I think I’m on my way up it seems like I’m back where I started. What I do want is a steady stream of income… what I keep getting is barely enough to get by. I’m usually pretty upbeat but this is stressful and I’m pretending it is not.

    • rob says:

Remember what we spoke of, Rus …. pretending gives energy to what you do NOT want. Simply take a moment to turn your self-talk around by pre-tending in the other direction. premediate the tendencies that you want as part of your personality, and then go out into the world acting as though it is already SO … BUT NOT AS A COVER-UP … RATHER AS AN ACT OF MANIFESTATION. Go for it, Rus!

  11. Kara says:

In most areas of my life things are going great. However; there is an area that needs a recovery act: my dating life stinks. I keep ending up with the same kind of guys over and over again. At first I think they are exactly what I need, then it turns into to the same old BS. I dont get it. I’m focusing I what I DO want and I’m finding it, then it turns into something entirely different. Before I know it I’m back in something that I DON’T want.

    • rob says:

Hi Kara … thank you for the courage of sharing that with us. Clearly there are some ‘deep-content’ thoughts, submerged in the subconscioius level of your mind, insisting that you deserve to suffer with ‘stinky’ dates. Be willing to notice this, and simply say ‘be gone with thee’ every time these thoughts up. This simple shift in internal self-talk can make a big difference with what you attract.

  12. Hey Rob. Well said. In fact this is quite timely for me as I have something on my mind that keeps stealing my thoughts away from what I would like them to be. Time to put the recovery act in action me thinks! :-)

    • rob says:

Great noticement about yourself, Amit. I believe that our thoughts steal our lives when we allow them to run amuck, but there is nothing in our mind that can steal your thoughts. You willingness to observe your mind tells me that you have mental discipline. Use your power of will to replace those thoughts that are stealing your life with new opinions that make you once again ‘the master of your fate’. Here’s One: I AM DIVINLY GENERATED AND DESTINED TO WIN AT THE GAME OF LIFE. Make this a thought-habit … watch what happens!

  13. Rob –

My Recovery Act Programme is called Magnificent May. I’ve set myself 12 challenges to undertake to make this my best month yet (these include getting up earlier, running 85 miles this month, making sure I give enough time to my relationship, and eating healthily). I’m tracking these and so far it is making a huge difference to my quality of life. Great idea to get systematic on improving our circumstances.

    Phil

    • rob says:

Hi Phil … setting challenges … specific DOINGS … tracking your results ….getting systematic! That’s a great formula for success in any domain of life. Thanks for sharing that. By the way … you said ‘I’ve set myself 12 challenges’ … who is the ‘YOU’ that sent you the challenges? How many .. YOU’S .. are there?

  14. John says:

I like Phil’s ‘magnificent May’ way of enacting the recovery act! Especially tracking one’s progress to make sure something is really happening.

  15. Richard says:

Everything is a creation. Your Mission is the mission you give yourself. Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you. Energy flows where attention goes. Fantastic post!

    • rob says:

Indeed. Richard, everything is a creation … energy cannot help but flow where your attention flows. Great comment; you are up something in life.

  16. SaltySailorMan says:

I like this because it is up to us to enact a Recovery Program. I think most people sit around waiting for somebody to save their sorry behinds. What comes to mind is when you say, “If it is to be it is up to ME.” There is no escaping this. Fortunately I have my act together on the big issues… and why? Because I took initiative and worked my butt off to get there.

  17. Carol Anne says:

The current ‘recovery act program’ that is putting my mind back on track is the 180 Book 90 day mindadventure. I love how it keeps my mind directed so I can take my life where I want it to go.

  18. Rob says:

Hey rob … your name is rob and my name is Rob. We have something in common, except i capitalize the ‘R’. i am not humble about it, I am arrogant about it! I love your blogs.

  19. NormaJean says:

As an recovering alcoholic, I give thanks daily to AA for givmg me a Recovery Act that works. good tip, Rob

  20. Tamera says:

A ‘recovery act’ that put my mind back on track was to accept that my father died and stop being angry with the hospital for what happened. Thank you for aloowing me space to share this.

    • rob says:

We can tend to get angry when someone we love passes on, Tamera. Putting together a Recovery Act to get through the sadness works. Appreciate the sadness – it is telling you that you had a very special relationship.

  21. JoanneJ says:

I do not like vice president Biden, and so I have a problem with the idea of a recovery act program. I can see how foolish this disposition is

  22. Norman says:

My current ‘recovery act’ includes eating right … no more junk food and far less sugar. I need to take this ‘recovery act’ as seriously as the country has to take our financial ‘recovery act’.

  23. rob says:

I love your commitment to your ‘recovery act’, Norman. I can sense the ‘fire in your belly’! The universe will support you with your aspiration because you are committed to making it so.

  24. Bingo1 says:

I am recovering from my last ‘recovery act’. I expected too much of myself and fell way back (disappointed and depressed).

  25. Karen says:

My ‘recovery act’ includes accepting my children just as they are and not always trying to mold them into how I want them to be.

  26. rob says:

That is a noble ‘recovery act’ Karen

  27. Norman says:

I didn’t know that Biden was the 30th vice president – I thought he was the 29th. I looked it up. You are right.

  28. john says:

you mention in this blog that we can all work miracles. I just worked a miracle. I bought a car for 1/2 price. I never thought I could own such a nice car! I do (now) believe in miracles.

  29. Monty says:

I need a great car for half price … how’d you do that, John?

  30. YomanH says:

my ‘recovery Act’ right now is to become conscious of when i am putting others down. This has become a bad habit – it is time to give it up.

  31. Randy says:

My ‘Recovery Act’ worked – I have recovered from a bad flu that gripped me. I ate right, only thought pleasant thoughts, and got plenty of rest. On to a ‘Recovery Act’ to improve my money situation!

  32. Great article Rob.

I can see myself using that concept in many areas. And I love the affirmation you shared in the comments: “I AM DIVINELY GENERATED AND DESTINED TO WIN AT THE GAME OF LIFE.”

  33. rob says:

I think you truly are destined to win at the game of life, Leisa …. your inspiring energy spills over onto my website. I clearly know that you are Divinely generated.

  34. Kim says:

I like thinking I am divinely generated and destined to win. It makes me think more about what I want to win at doing.
