I can remember years ago attending many seminars and reading many inspirational self-help books on how to improve my life, but it was all passive listening and reading. When I would be with my friends, I’d talk about what I’d heard or read (probably just to look good), but it was all vain repetition. I hadn’t put the knowledge into my life, and hence; it never amounted to anything – my life was the same old way it was before.
It doesn’t work to just obtain knowledge or join a self-help website without asking “how does this apply to me, and how can I put this into my daily life to help support me with my aspirations?” Have you read one or two (or three or four) great inspirational, self-help books, thinking it was going to change your life, and nothing changed?
The consciousness it takes to act upon the information you have heard or read is where the discipline begins. It is as important that the knowledge find an avenue to ‘outflow’ from you as it was to create an ‘inflow’ so that you may demonstrate it in your daily affairs.
There are two ladders to successful achievement – the thinking ladder and the doing ladder. If you are not climbing both of them simultaneously, you are doomed to fall back where you were. I neglected the Doing Ladder for years. Are you aware of both ladders with your growth-choice endeavors? How are you doing with those two ladders?

Is it possible that my inner thought-habits are a consequence of the story I was told as a child, about who I am and what I can expect of life?
What do you think is absolutely untrue about you that if you decided it was true, would support you with living into the future you dream of living into? Give them some thought; it can be very revealing.
Have you ever noticed that when you are riding the high wave of a successful day you feel good about yourself. I sense that the journey actually is an INSIDE/OUTSIDE job; we really cannot ride the high wave of success out there in the world if we are having a difficult time dealing with a grumbling mood and salty attitude. It seems we can measure our outer success by measuring the degree of ‘wowsomeness’ we our experiencing with our inner attitude and mood.
How do you act when your attitude and mood give you feedback that supports your new aspiration and aim – I find myself taking chances – do you? If my attitude and mood don’t support my new action, I look for reason to quit. Have you noticed doing that? I’ve learned over time that rather than look for reason to quit, it is wiser to work on reasons why it may be smarter to turn my attitude and mood around; which each and every one of us can do if we are willing to. Stubbornness can be such a mule!
My opinions are not carved in stone, although sometimes they feel as though they are. When I find my reactions are not working for me, it is best I take a look at the opinions I am clinging to and insisting are true. Have you ever clung to a ‘Poor Me’ attitude and refused to let go? Considering yourself anything less than unlimited is a break from reality, and acting in ways to prove ‘Poor Me’ is the right attitude for you is insanity. I know; I’ve tried! Whenever I blame the world for my ills – I surely slam tight the door to my unrealized potential! Neurosis is taking on an attitude that I am incapable of riding the high wave of success, and then setting out to prove it is true.
One of the biggest fears of letting go of old habit patterns is that we will not be ourselves any more. The fear of extinction prevents us from seeing that the Habitual-Self must fade away in order to make room for a higher version of oneself.
Here is what these people are doing: in order to cling to the old you so they feel comfortable, they make disgruntling remarks and call you phony when you begin behaving in dramatically new ways. They have no conscience in making you feel foolish if they feel uncomfortable with your new self-creation. They are like demanding musicians insisting that you dance to the music they play for you.
The world offers you a fabulous opportunity. Without the abundance of contrast that you find in the world, this rich physical realm of existence would not exist. But because it does exist as an environment of opposites, it offers you marvelous opportunities to experience relativity. What side of the stick are you relating to: sufficiency or insufficiency? The choice is entirely up to you.
There is no one who misses the enriching sense of self-worthiness when he chooses to relate to the enriching side of this world. So how do you do that? It requires living in the everyday world, appreciating all that is sufficient and beautiful.
